LOS AMIGOS BIOLOGICAL STATION – MADRE DE DIOS

DAY 01. PUERTO MALDONADO – LOS AMIGOS

We first go for 02 hours car ride to Laberinto Town to then take a motor boat and go for 04 more hours to finally arrive to our target place. Our birding experience begins by the time we take the boat since we can see many water birds along the majestic Madre de Dios river. Then as soon as we arrive to the lodge, the building is surrounded by jungle so birds are already waiting for you there.

Target Birds Species: White Throated Jacamar, Cocoi Heron, Capped Heron, Black Skimmer, Ringed Kingfisher, White Winged Swallow, Large Billed Tern, Tropical Kingbird, Greater Yellow-Headed Vulture, Zone-Tailed Hawk, Undulated Tinamou, Speckled Chachalaca, Black Fronted Nunbird, Russet Backed Oropendola, Social Flycatcher, Cobal Winged Parakeet and many more.

DAY 02. LOS AMIGOS BIOLOGICAL STATION’S TRAILS

A full day birding walk to bird the main trails and get the most exciting bird species. This location has good trails with different hábitats that can increase your personal bird list.

Target Birds Species: Long Crested Pygmy-Tyrant, Black Faced Cotinga, Rufous Fronted Antthrush, Peruvian Recurbill, Pale Winged Trumpeter, Pavonine Quetzal, Black Faced Antbird, Green Backed Trogon, Dwarf Tyrant-Manakin, Great Jacamar, Yellow Browed Tody-Flycatcher, Flammulated Tody-Tyrant, Bamboo Antshrike, Johannes tody Tyrant, Broad-Billed Motmot, Sepia Capped Flycatcher, Casqued Cacique, Tropical Screech Owl and many more.

DAY 03. LOBO LAGOON & MORE TRAIL

Today we visit a small lagoon where we have small & big wáter birds, we take a paddle boat to move slowly around this lake to get the targets and if Lucky we can see the Giant River Otter since there is a family of them living in there. On the way in and the way back we will be walking on different trails getting different ecosystems for more birds species.

Target Birds Species: Hoatzin, Long Billed Woodcreeper, Ruddy Spinetail, Black Capped Donacobius, Slate-Colored Grossbeak, Red Headed Woodpecker, Ivory-Billed Aracari, Band-Tailed Antbird, Crested Owl, Black Faced Dacnis, Olive Oropendola, Great Tinamou, Short Crested Flycatcher and many more.

DAY 04. FULL DAY BIRDING WALK

Our last full day to continue with our Amazonian bird list and get the rest of the bird species found in the number of trails found around this property.

Target Birds Species: Barred Forest-Falcon, Golden Collared Toucanet, Blue Headed Macaw, Rose Fronted Parakeet, Blue and Yellow Macaw, Scarlet Macaw, Yellow Tufted Woodpecker, Blue Crowned Trogon, Blue Headed Parrot, Brown Chested Martin, Reddish Hermit, Rufous Breasted hermit, Swallow Winged Puffbird, Chesnut Tailed Antbird and many more.

DAY 05. BACK TO PUERTO MALDONADO

Our last birding walk around the bilding for the bird species that are often flying around before leaving the Station, then pack everything to go back to town for your flight.
