DAY 01.- CHICLAYO CITY- CHAPARRI LODGE – RAFAN

Early start to bird the best birding spots along this exclusive dry habitat along the Northern Coast. We first start with Chaparri area where we have a good number of birds that inhabit this special oasis, type of birds that are endemic to Peru or just shared with Ecuador. Then we continue along this bird day with RAFAN, another good bird spot with unique birds and habitat.

DAY 02.- CHICLAYO – ABRA PORCULLA – BOSQUE YANAHUANCA – JAEN CIUDAD

We will have an early departure to continue with our northern birding tour and this time we will start heading to the northern amazon, driving over the lowest mountain chain to finally arrive to Yanahuanca forest in Jaen City. Very good bird stops along this route with many specialties, beautiful landscapes and endemic birds.

DAY 03.- JAEN – HUEMBO LODGE – POMACOCHAS

Another early morning to keep moving into the Northern Jungle, many bird stops along this beaty road and very good birds too. Our birding car will always stay with us giving better chances to move when needed and this way allowing us to get the best birds at the proper places.

TARGET BIRDS: Little Inca Finch, Marañon Spinetail, Marveleous Spatelutail, Speckle Chested Piculet, Little Woodstart, Mountain Velvetbreast, Rufous Winged Tyrannulet, Violet Throated Startfrontlet, Sickle Winged Guan, Olivaceous Siskin, Buff Bellied Tanager, Lesser Goldfinch, Speckle Breasted Wren, Chesnut Crested Cotinga, Citrine Warbler, Golden Grosbeak.

DAY 04.- POMACOCHAS – SAN LORENZO CAMINO – FUNDO ALTO NIEVA

Today is considered a chalenge day since We will be moving on east side of northern andes, walking uphill over 2500m and this bird walk can be tiring but worth it. Very cool view as you walk plus the birds you can get along this particular trail.

TARGET BIRDS: Pale Billed Antpitta, Large Footed Tapaculo, Russet Mantled Softail, Rufous Capped Antshrike, Lacrimose Mountain Tanager, Gray Breasted Mountain Toucan, Scaly Naped Amazon, Rufous Vented Tapaculo, Rusty Breasted Antpitta, Rufous Crested Tanager, Gray Browed Brush Finch, Gray Hooded Bush Tanager.

DAY 05.- FUNDO ALTO NIEVA & ALREDEDORES

A pretty full day here, shooting hummingbirds at the hummer feeders and visiting the Antpitta Feeding spots. This special protected area has beautiful and endemic birds that can be easily spotted by staying at this property. Well mantained trail system with all the basic services to spend the night.

DAY 06.- FUNDO ALTO NIEVA – ARENA BLANCA – WAQANKI LODGE - MOYOBAMBA

Early departure to visit a small bird spot where we have the chance to shoot colorful hummingbirds and visit also a feeding station for tinamous. This first birding stop is one of the few but good mandatory place for birders and non birders. Right after this vsit we then end up in Moyobamba where we have another really good place for more hummingbirds and northern specialties.

TARGET BIRDS: Whire Crested Thorntail, Orange Billed Sparrow, Little Tinamou,Ash Throated Antwren, Ecuadorian Piedtail, Huallaga Tanager, Rufous Breasted Wood Quail, Marble Faced Bristle Tyrant, White Winged Tanager, Black faced Tanager, Red Ruffed Fruitcrow, Scaled Fruiteater, Golden Collared Toucanet, Short Tailed Tyrant.

DAY 07.- MOYOBAMBA – MIRADOR – TARAPOTO – LIMA

Our last morning it will be at Mirador of Moyobamba city, a perfect place with a very nice birding view, over the Mayo River. This bird spot will give us great chance for the endemic Monkey specie of San Martin Region, plus very good birds that frecuently move around this area. After a nice birdy morning and good lunch we then head to Tarapoto airport for our afternoon flight to Lima.

TARGET BIRDS: Mishana Tyrannulet, Rufous Crested Coquette, Oilbird, Burnished Buff Tanager, Tataupa Tinamou, Lafresnaye’s Piculet, Varzea Thrush, Rufous Fronted Thronbird, Yellow Bellied Elaenia, Lettered Aracari, Planalto Hermit, Pale Breasted Thrush, Blue Necked Tanager, Cream Colored Woodpecker.
