DAY 01. LIMA ARRIVAL

International flights usually arrive to Peru between 9:30 pm to 11:30 pm. But please let us know your arrival time so We can pick you up from the Airport on time to then take you to our Hotel at downtown Miraflores.

DAY 02. VILLA MARSHES – PUCUSANA – CUSCO

Early breakfast and then we drive to visit Villa Marshes (Pantanos de Villa) a good place to introduce bird of Lima to you, where we have a great variety of shore birds and a good spot for the migratory ones. Nice area to start our Peru bird list, getting cool bird like Blackbirds, Yellow Finches, Teals and Plovers.After this visit, we then move to our next birding spot, Pucusana Fishing port. A really nice place for Sea Birds and nice show of Pelicans, Tern and Boobies. after this cool short boat trip by the Pacific Ocean, we then start heading to Lima Airport in order to take our flight to Cusco.

Target Birds Species: Humbolt Penguin, the Endemic Surf Cinclodes, Inca Tern, Peruvian Pelican, Belcher’s Gull, Royal Tern, Guanay Cormorant, Peruvian Boobies, Red Legged Cormorant, Ruddy Turnstone, Blackish Oystercatcher, Cinammon Teal, Ruddy Duck, Harri’s Hawk, Many Colored Rush Tyrant, Yellow Hooded Blackbird, Croacking Ground Dove, Peruvian Thicknee, Amazilia Hummingbird and many more.

DAY 03. CUSCO – AGUAS CALIENTES

Another early breakfast and then we go to Poroy Train Station to take the 03 hours Train Ride to Aguas Calientes town. On this lovely Train ride, we have the chance to see the popular Torrent Duck as we travel, once we arrive to the town we set up our luggage in the Hotel to then go for Lunch. Right after this, we can go for our second birding day, walking by Urubamba River and spend the whole afternoon birding this area.

Target Birds Species: The Endemic Masked Fruiteater, Rufous Headed Pygmy-Tyrant,Mottled Cheecked Tyrannulet, White Bellied Hummingbird, Torrent Tyrannulet, Highland Momot, Mitred Parakeet, Thick-Billed Euphonia, Common Tody-Flycatcher, Sclater Tyrannulet, Ashy Headed Tyrannulet, Streak Necked Flycatcher, Golden Crowned Flycatcher, Collared Inca, Gray Breasted Wood-Wren, White Capped Dipper, Oleaginous Hemispingus and more.

DAY 04. MACHUPICCHU – OLLANTAYTAMBO

Birding in Peru takes you to One of the most Wonderful places in the World, MACHUPICCHU. And to get there, we take 20 minutes bus drive to the main gate, once there we bird around MACHUPICCHU, for target species that are easy to see there. Of course, we will also have time to explore the Ruins and take the Classical Machupicchu Pictures. After enjoying the place and get the species we wanted we start moving down for lunch and get ready for the train back to Ollantaytambo Town.

Target Birds Species: The Endemic Green and White Hummingbird & Inca Wren. White Winged Black Tyrant, Tricolor Brush-Finch, Rufous Breasted Coronet, Chesnut Capped Brush-Finch, Highland Elaenia, White Tipped Swift, Rust and Yellow Tanager, Blue and White Swallow, Ocellated Piculet, American Kestrel, Rufous-Collared Sparrow and more.

DAY 05. FULL DAY ALONG ABRA MALAGA & PEÑAS

You might be saying why a full day around Abra Malaga and Peñas, the reason is that being at the mountain, the altitude and the kind of walk found there can be very tiring so to get tour target bird “ Royal Cinclodes” and others good birds, we have to go over the mountain and for sure that takes time. Peñas is also a nice area that requires time since the area has really good birds.

Target Birds Species: The Endemics Creamy Crested Spinetail, Rusty Fronted Canastero, White-Tufted Sunbeam, Junin Canastero, White Browed Tit-Spinetail & Chesnut Breasted Mountain Finch. Giant Conebill, Puna Tapaculo, Thick Billed Siskin, Plain Colored Seedeater, Cordilleran Canastero, Taczanosky Tinamou, White Winged Diuca Finch, Plumbeous Sierra-Finch, Tawny Tit-Spinetail, Streak Throated Canastero, Red Rumped Bush Tyrant, Rufous Webbed Bush Tyrant, Stripe Headed Antpitta, Ash Breasted Tit-Tyrant, Common Miner and more.

DAY 06. CARRIZALES & PARAMO FOREST

Another full day around this area for some more target birds, visiting places with Chusquea Bamboo for some cool and Endemic Birds plus Paramo Forest for some other that can be found just there.

Target Birds Species: The endemics Unstreaked Tit-Tyrant & Cuzco Brush-Finch. Nice area for Rufous Antpitta, Red Crested Cotinga, Paramo Pipit, Collared Inca, Giant Hummingbird, Sword-Billed Hummingbird, Green-Tailed Trainbearer, Gray Browed Brush-Finch, Gray Breasted Wood-Wren, White Browed Conebill, Andean Lapwing, Andean Goose and more.

DAY 07. OLLANTAYTAMBO - HUAYPO LAKE & CUSCO

Early breakfast to then start moving to Cusco, but before leaving we should be checking the garden by the hotel since in a recently trip we spotted the endemic bird Bearded Mountaineer. Right after this, we continue to finally get to Haypo Lake, where we spend the rest of the afternoon with water birds like Coots, Teals, Swallows and Sandpipers that inhabit Andean Lakes.

Target Birds Species: Short Billed Pipit, Andean Coot, Mountain Caracara, Yellow Winged Blackbird, Puna Teal, Spot Winged Pigeon, Andean Gull, Ruddy Duck, Yellow Billed Teal, Yellow Billed Pintail, Puna Ibis, Wren Like Rushbird and more.

DAY 08. CUSCO – HUACARPAY LAKE – ACJANACCO PASS & WAYQECHA STATION

Early departure from Cusco to do the famous birding spot, Huacarpay Lake. Where we have nice view of the lake and birds. Here we also have some Endemic Birds that would be our targets, after this water spot we continue with our trip to the Famous Manu Road, on the way we will do some more stops to get birds at different elevation and variety.

Target Birds Species: The Endemics Bearded Mountaineer and Rusty Fronted Canastero. Brown Backed Chat-Tyrant, Great Sapphire wing, Bare-Faced Ground Dove, Golden Billed Saltator, Streak Fronted Thornbird, Giant Hummingbird, Eared Dove, Andean Negrito, Greenish Yellow Finch, Plumbeous Rail, Blue and Yellow Tanager, Cinereous Harrier, Variable Hawk, Andean Swallow, Puna Ibis, White Crested Elaenia, Hooded Siskin, Lesser Elaenia, Band-Tailed Seedeater, Black Throated Flowerpiercer and more.

DAY 09. FULL DAY WAYQECHA STATION – CANOPY WALKWAY - PILLAHUATA & TUNNELS

Having this full day let us bird the whole Cloud Forest over 3000m, getting the different mix species flocks and the high Andean Birds like Toucans, Mountain Tanagers, Antpittas. Nice area to be covered in one day. We can move also below this elevation for some bird variety, the idea is to cover the whole area between 3.600 and 2.500m in order to get the species we want at this elevation.

Target Birds Species: The Endemic Red and White Antpitta & Parodi’s Hemispingus. Some more birds like Gray Breasted Mountain Toucan, Black Throated Tody-Tyrant, White Collared Jay,Barred Fruiteater, Band-Tailed Fruiteater, Striped Faced Wood-Quail, Rufous Antpitta, Undulated Antpitta, Grass Green Tanager, Puna Wren, Sierran Elaenia, Chesnut Crested Cotinga, Pale Legged Warbler, Trilling Tapaculo, Tyrian Metaltail, Shining Sunbeam and more.

DAY 10. BIRDING MANU ROAD TO COCK OF THE ROCK LODGE

Early breakfast to continue with our itinerary birding down the road and getting more birds as we move lower in elevation, very nice birding spots on the way and very cool landscape for photography.

Target Birds Species: The Endemic Inca Flycatcher, and more birds like Mountain Cacique, Bar Breasted Woodpecker, Slaty Backed Chat-Tyrant, White Throated Hawk, Masked Trogon, Blue and Black Tanager, Chesnut Bellied Mountain Tanager, Fawn Breasted Tanager, Cinnamon Flycatcher, Handsome Flycatcher, Strong Billed Woodcreeper,Golden-Headed Quetzal, Common Bush-Tanager, Pale Footed Swallow and more.

DAY 11. FULL DAY COCK OF THE ROCK LODGE – ROCOTAL & QUITA CALZON

At this lodge we have bird variety since we already have some jungle species around, but since we have a full day we can move back up on the road and look for some cool birds and mix flocks. One day moving at two different directions in order to get all the birds we want for our list.

Target Birds Species: The Endemic Cerulean Capped Manakin and Black Backed Tody-Flycatcher. More Birds like Slaty Tanager, Olive Flycatcher, White Troated Antpitta, Two Banded Warbler, Silver Beak Tanager, Blue-Necked Tanager, Golden Tanager, Montane Foliage-Gleaner, White Crowned Tapaculo, Olive Backed Woodcreeper, Golden Olive Woodpecker, Wedge Billed Hummingbird, Speckled Hummingbird, White Eyed Parakeet, Scale-Crested Pygmy Tyrant, Cinnamon Faced Tyrannulet, Ochre Faced Tody Flycatcher and more.

DAY 12. HUMMINGBIRD FEEDERS & COCK OF THE ROCK LECK

Another full day to catch de hummer’s variety that visits the feeders, a good place to photograph and enjoy these little birds at a very close distance, then we move to see a very cool natural show given the famous Cock of the Rock Leck.

Target Birds Species: The Endemic Anna’s Racketail (Booted Racketail), some more hummers like Many Spotted Hummingbird, Violet Fronted Brilliant, Whire Crested Thorntail, Sparkling Violetear, White Bellied Woodstart, Speckle Hummingbird and some others like Paradise Tanager, Eastern Wood Pewee, Chesnut Backed Antshrike, Cabanis Spinetail, Chesnut Breasted Wren, Spotted Barbtail, Versicolored Barbet, Slaty Antwren, Three Striped Warbler, Ocellated Woodcreeper, Black Billed Treehunter, White Backed Fireeyes, Yellow Breasted Antwren, White Lined Tanager and more.

DAY 13. COCK OF THE ROCK LODGE – CHONTACHACA – PATRIA & VILLA CARMEN STATION

We slowly drive down the road and have some more stops along this birdy road. On the way, we can find some good bamboo patches, second growth plus river edge forest, so this will give us a good number of bird species.

Target Birds Species: The Endemics Black Backed Tody-Flycatcher and Golden Bellied Warbler. Some other birds like Yellow Crested Tanager, Southern Lapwing, Long Tailed Tyrant, Little Woodpecker, Smooth-Billed Ani, Violaceous Jay, Bananaquit, Sulphury Flycatcher, Chestnut Bellied Seedfinch, Brownish Headed Antbird, Swallow Tanager, Bluish Fronted Jacamar, Chesnut Backed Antshrike, Social Flycatcher, Chesnut Bellied Seedeater, Crested Oropendola and many more.

DAY 14. FULL DAY VILLACARMEN STATION’S TRAIL – BAMBO FOREST – RIVER EDGE FOREST & HILLY FOREST.

Early breakfast to continue with our tropical journey with Bamboo Birds since the property has a big section of Gadua Bamboo. Then, some more bird habitats with more colorful birds and good targets.

Target Birds Species: White Lined Antbird, Scarlet Hooded Barbet, Plain Crowned Spinetail, Laughing Falcon, Manu Antbird, Slate Colored Seedeater, Rufous Breasted Piculet, Fasciated Mc Connel Flycatcher, Tiger Heron, Cinereous Tinamou, Gray Tinamou, Common Pauraque, Short Crested Flycatcher, White Banded Swallow, Rusty Fronted Tody Flycatcher, Forest Elaenia, Lemon Throated Barbet, Black Throated Antbird, Long Tailed Hermit, White Vented Euphonia, Ringed Kingfisher, Crested Oropendola, Blue Headed Macaw, Blue and Yellow Macaw, Little Woodpecker, Yellow Crested Tanager, White Eyed Antwren, Ornate Antwren and many more.

DAY 15. VILLA CARMEN – MADRE DE DIOS RIVER & MANU WILDLIFE CENTER

Very cool boat trip along the amazing Madre de Dios River with some stops on the way for picture opportunities. This boat trip might take between 06 to 08 hours according to the wáter level, but it is cool since there are some cool birds along the river plus animals that can be found by the river bank. The landscape and view from the boat are quite impressive having a serpentine river full of birdlife.

Target Birds Species: Razor Billed Curassow, Pied Lapwing, Collared Plover, Ringed Kingfisher, Fasciated Tiger-Heron, Horned Screaming, Muscovy Duck, Large Billed Tern, Brown Chested Martin, Cocoi Heron, Capped Heron, Southern Caracara, White Winged Swallow and many more.

DAY 16. MACAW CLAY LICK & CANOPY TOWER

Our first activity in the Lowland forest with the great natural show given by Macaws and Parakeets. This show is given in the morning for which we take an early boat trip of 30 minutes to then walk for 20 minutes and reach this birding spot.

After spending a good time enjoying Macaws then we boat back to the lodge for lunch. Right after this, we go for terra firme birds and late in the afternoon we continue our birding with canopy birds at the tree platform.

Target Birds Species: Red and Green Macaw, Chesnut Fronted Macaw, Blue Headed Parrot, Blue and Yellow Macaw, Scarlet Macaw, Tui Parakeet, Cobal Winged Parakeet, Hooded Tanager, Amazonian Motmot, Sirystes, Dusky Chested Flycatcher, Casqued Cacique, Inambari Woodcreeper, Golden Belied Euphonia, Black Faced Dacnis, Bare-Necked Fruitcrow, Rose Fronted Parakeet and many more.

DAY 17. COCHA BLANCO LAKE & BAMBOO FOREST

Beatiful lake at only 20 minutes by boat from the lodge where we have a big number of water birds and others that like to soar around open habitats, very comfortable catamaran big enough to move around and photograph the side lake birds. Being lucky we can also see the Gian River Otters since there is a family living in the lake. Late in the afternoon, we walk through more bamboo forest for some more bamboo specialist.

Target Birds Species: The uncommon Pale Eyed Blackbird & the Black-Billed Seedfinch. Some more like Amazon Kingfisher, Green and Rufous Kingfisher, Amazonian Streaked Antwren, Silvered Antbird, Banded Antbird, Rufous-Sided Crake, Snail Kite, Slate Collared Hawk, Hoatzin, White Throated Toucan, Black Capped Donacobius, Wattled Jacana and many more.

DAY 18. MANU WILDLIFE CENTER – COLORADO VILLAGE – PUERTO MALDONADO

Early breakfast for our last birding walk around the lodge to then go for 03 hours boat to get to Colorado Village where we take 01-hour taxi car and finally 03 hours car to our last stay. Of course many birds on the way since we will be doing car, boat and car.

Target Birds Species: Orinoco Goose, Sand Colored Nighthawk, Crane Hawk, Yellow Billed Tern, Mottled Backed Eleania, Purplish Jay, White-Banded Swallow, Black Skimmer, Anhinga, Zone-Tailed Hawk and many more.

DAY 19. PUERTO MALDONADO LAST BIRDING

Last early breakfast to go for some special birds around Puerto Maldonado before leaving, this area has interesting second growth with good river edge forest.

Target Birds Species: Rusty Margined Flycatcher, White Throated Jcamar, Chesnut Vented Conebill, Purus Jacamar, Point Tailed Woodcreeper, Black Banded Crake, Straight Billed Woodcreeper, Brazilian Teal, Buff Fronted Foliage Gleaner, Barred Antshrike and more.
