BIRDING DAYS WITH VARIETY OF LANDSCAPES INCLUDING THE FAMOUS BIRD SPOTS SUCH AS ABRA MALAGA, QUILLABAMBA ROAD, LIMATAMBO - CHONTA (CONDOR’S VIEW) & MOLLEPATA-SORAYPAMPA ROAD.

ALL THESE BIRD SPOTS WILL GIVE YOU THE BEST BIRDS FROM THE SOUTH SUCH AS THE VERY LOCALIZED VILCABAMBA TAPACULO, APURIMAC BRUSH FINCH, APURIMAC SPINETAIL, THE SUB-SPECIE APURIMAC SCREECH OWL AND THE RARE BUFF FRONTED OWL. SOME OTHERS LIKE MASKED FRUITEATER, INCA WREN, UNSTREAKED TIT TYRANT, MARCAPATA SPINETAIL, WHITE TUFTED SUMBEAN, BEARDED MOUNTAINEER, THE RARE ROYAL CINCLODES AND MANY OTHERS.

DAY BY DAY TRIP

DAY 01.- LIMA ARRIVAL

We pick you up from the airport to then take you to our Hotel in Miraflores downtown. Then, have dinner while we set up last details from our bird trip.

DAY 02.- LIMA FLIGHT TO CUSCO – HUACARPAY LAKE & HUAMBUTIO

We flight from Lima To Cusco to then visit a beautiful spot where we have the chance to have an introduction to the Southern Andes Bird Specialties. These two places are located on the way to Ollantaytambo Town and have some good birds to start our Bird List.

Target Birds Species: The Endemics Bearded Mountaineer & Rusty Fronted Canastero plus some others like Streak Fronted Thornbird, White Crested elaenia, Green Tailed Trainbearer, Many Colored Rush Tyrant, Wren Like Rushbird, Yellow Winged Blackbird, Yellow Biled Pintail, Yellow Billed Teal and many others.

DAY 03.- OLLANTAYTAMBO – PEÑAS - ABRA MALAGA

A very special visit to this famous site where we have the chance to get many specials and range-restricted Birds. We take the car and we drive to our first stop to then be up 4200m. with very nice hábitat and birds. Along this day tour we will see different bird habitats like paramo, puna bogs and the famous Polylepis Forest.

Target Birds Species: The rare and localized Royal Cinclodes, the endemics White Browed Tit Spinetail and Junin Canastero. Some others specialties of this forest is Tawny Tit Spinetail, Ash Breasted Tit Tyrant, Puna Tapaculo, Cordilleran Canastero, Tick Like Dacnis, Black Throated Flowerpiercer, Giant Conebill and many others.

DAY 04.- QUILLABAMBA ROAD – CARRIZALES – TRAIN TO MACHUPICCHU PUEBLO

An early departure to move along Quillabamba Road and have some stops on the way for Chusquea Bamboo specialties and Paramo forest. Along this beautiful road we have good bird stops with very beautiful landscapes. Right after this we head back to Ollantaytambo City for our two comfortable hours of Train to Machupicchu Pueblo.

Target Birds Species: The endemics White Tufted Sunbean, Chesnut Breasted Mountain Finch, Creamy Crested Spinetail, Unstreaked Tit Tyrant, Marcapata Spinetail, Cusco Brush Finch and Inca Wren. Others like Black Backed Grosbeak, Paramo Pipit, Crested Duck, Puna Thistletail, Sapphire Vented Puffleg and others.

DAY 05.- MACHUPICCHU CITADEL AND SURROUNDINGS – BACK TO CUSCO

Nice visit to one of the famous arqueological site MACHUPICCHU, where we spend some nice time knowing the interesting Incas Culture and get your Machupicchu photo. Right after this we slowly move back to the town lower down wher we can still get some more birds before we take the train back to Cusco.

Target Birds Species: Inca Fycatcher, Ashy Headed Tyrannulet, Plumbeous Crowned Tyrannulet, White Tipped Swift, Highland Motmot, Torrent Duck, Slate Throated Whitestart, White Capped Dipper, White Bellied Hummingbird, Azaras Spinetail, pale Legged Warbler, Collared Inca, Dull Colored Grassquit and many more.

DAY 06.- APURIMAC VALLEY – MOLLEPATA ROAD - SORAYPAMPA

Early birding along this dirt road with very intersting vegetation where we can find the birds at different elevations and all the bird specialties found at this corner. Nice full day moving up and down looking for our targets. Our car will be be with us all the time at any bird movement.

Target Birds Species: The endemics Apurimac Brush Finch, Apurimac Spinetail, Vilcabamba Tapaculo, Chesnut Breasted Mountain Finch and the recent Split to become specie White Tailed Canastero. Some others like Andean Emerald, White Eared Puffbird, White Winged Black Tyrant and the rare Buff Fronted Owl.

DAY 07.- APURIMAC VALLEY – CHONTA VILLAGE & CONDORS

We have the chance for another early birding at Mollepata road to then slowly move up to Chonta Village and continue with high elevation birds plus the majestic Andean Condor.

Target Birds Species: Aplomado Falcon, Variable Hawk, Black Chested Buzzard Eagle, Black Billed Shrike Tyrant, Andean Hillstart, Peruvian Pygmy Owl, Slender Billed Miner and the endemic Sub-specie Apurimac Screech Owl.

DAY 09.- APURIMAC - CUSCO FLIGHT BACK TO LIMA

Hour and a half Car back to Cusco and then the flight back to Lima.
