CENTRAL PERÚ BIRDS
DAY 1 LIMA – SANTA EULALIA LOWER PART
We pick you up from the airport or any Hotel around Lima to then start with Our Central Andes Tour. And head to Santa Eulalia Road where we can spot Our first endemic birds and many other Central Bird specialties. Along this road, we also have the chance to a small patch of Polylepis Forest that can give Us a very good number of unique bird species. OVERNIGHT AT SANTA EULALIA TOWN
TARGET BIRDS:
The rare Rufous Breasted Warbling Finch, and other Endemics like Great Inca Finch, Black Necked Woodpecker, Rusty Bellied Brush-Finch, Black Metal-tail, Bronze Tailed Comet, Thick Billed Miner, Striated Earth-creeper and the other Uncommon White Cheeked Cotinga.
DAY 2 ANTA EULALIA ROAD HIGHER PART
Early drive to move higher along this special road for the unique DIADEMED SANDPIPER PLOVER & the biggest WHITE BELLIED CINCLODES. Once on top of this particular area we also have great chances for many other birds that inhabit paramo forest and Puna bogs. Overnight at Santa Eulalia Town
TARGET BIRDS:
The endemic Dark Winged Miner and the uncommon Olivaceous Thornbill. Some other specialties are White-Fronted Ground Tyrant, Slender Billed Miner, Gray Breasted Seed-snipe, Puna Snipe, try for Rufous Bellied Seedsnipe, and Puna Tinamou.
DAY 3 SANTA EULALIA – ONDORES, JUNIN
Another early drive to continue with Central Andes and reach the Junín area where we can have a nice Boat Ride at Junín Lake searching for the very Threatened Junín Grebe and other water birds around. Then We also have some nice walks around 4000m. to look for more bird specialties at this great place surrounded by Paramo forest and reef. Overnight at Junin Town
TARGET BIRDS:
The endemics Black breasted Hillstar, Junín Canastero and Junín Rail. Some more good birds like Ornate Tinamou, Correndera Pipit, Andean Avocet, Aplomado Falcon and many more.
DAY 4 .- JUNIN – HUANUCO, BOSQUE UNCHOG
Early departure to Huánuco Department for more unique central birds. Today We will be visiting a recent private area with very good birds and beautiful landscape. This protected forest has nice mountains covered with paramo and elfin forest that holds unique birds. Overnight at Junin Town
TARGET BIRDS:
Endemic birds like Bay Vented Cotinga, Rufous Browed Hemispingus, Coppery Metal tail, Tschuid Tapaculo, Pardusco, Neblina Tapaculo, and Golden Backed Mountain-Tanager. Some more birds like Undulated Tinamou, Curve Billed Tinamou, Sedge Wren, Lined Fronted Canastero, and many more.
DAY 5 HUANUCO – BOSQUE UNCHOG FULL DAY
This extra day is in order to catch the missing birds and this way to increase Our Peru Bird List. Since birding is high in the Andes temperature and weather can be very variable this extra day here will give Us better chances for the birds We are looking for. Overnight at Huanuco Hotel

Endemic birds like Bay Vented Cotinga, Rufous Browed Hemispingus, Coppery Metal tail, Tschuid Tapaculo, Pardusco, Neblina Tapaculo, and Golden Backed Mountain-Tanager. Some more birds like Undulated Tinamou, Curve Billed Tinamou, Sedge Wren, Lined Fronted Canastero, and many more.
DAY 6 HUANUCO – CARPISH TUNNEL – BACK TO LIMA
Our last morning, we can go for an early birding to another great spot found around Huánuco. This extra spot has some other cool and endemic birds to fill Our Central Target Birds. After this, we start heading back to Lima since the way back takes 7 hours.
TARGET BIRDS:
Endemics like Peruvian Wren, Bay Antpitta, Unstreaked Tit Tyrant, Brown Flank Tanager, Yellow Scarfed Tanager, and Large Footed Tapaculo. Some more birds like Barred Fruiteater, Slaty Brush-Finch, Powerful Woodpecker.
This tour will range from 1000m at the dry scrub forest along Santa Eulalia Road and over 4000m at Junin Lake. Our birding car will stay with us most of the time and some of the bird walks can be difficult at certain bird locations where good physical condition is required since altitud plays a good role high up. The variable temperature along this tour suggests to bring good bird equipment and gear like Rain Boots or really good hiking shoes, rain Coat, Sun protection, etc. Acommodation will vary from lodges to hotels with all the basic needs.
