A memorable birding tour My wife & I did a birding & Machu Picchu trip with South Birding Peru in August 2022. It was our first trip to Peru and we enjoyed our 16-day stay. The pre-trip discussions were handled professionally by Jesus and Lisset. Jesus picked us up from the airport and was with us throughout. He was very efficient with managing all aspects of our stay and travel. He did well on the food front too as we are vegetarian! Our birding trip covered Cusco & Amazonian forest and one day each around Lima and Santa Eulalia valley. This is where Jesus shines. Be it bird calls, their ranges, minute species differences, locations, local contacts, you name it – he knew it all. And what I found exceptional was that he never had to look up a guide book even once. His tenacity is also noteworthy. When our enthusiasm was down on a dull day, he kept at it. His doggedness is the sole reason we saw the Mountain Toucan and many other birds. Thanks to Jesus. And Lisset.

20-day birding trip to Central Peru With a friend I went on a 20-day birding trip to the Central Andes of Peru. This trip was guided by Jésus Cieza who knows the region very well. Both Jésus and our driver Baldo were more than happy to work long days to show us the many specialties of the region. They succeeded remarkably well.

A Great Experience My wife and I went with Jesús Cieza of South Birding Peru for 5 days to Los Amigos Station and 2 in the Abra Malaga/Cuzco area. We had a great time! Jesús is a highly skilled birder. Serious listers will not be disappointed. He's ready and willing to put in 12+ hour days to maximize your time in the field. As others have said, Jesús is great company as well and knowledgeable about many things besides birds! All pre-trip communications with Jesús and his partner Lisset were rapid and clear as both speak and write excellent English. For me, large bird tour companies are superfluous: they charge a lot more money for you to be at the mercy of a group of people who may not all share your birding interests and physical abilities. By going directly with a fantastic local company like South Birding Peru, you get a completely personalized tour where you are likely to see more species than you would with a big company but for less money. This is a no-brainer!

Trekking, birds, culture and Pacific Ocean Borders This is my second trip with South birding Peru, the first of which was South Peru, Manu Road... and now we did the north part of Peru, Jesus is simply fantastic on every aspect of the trip.Birds of course but not only is he an excellent guide for birds but also a very nice person to get in touch with. He did a special effort in trying to find a place to visit a Wine producer and to stay at this marvalous place for one night. All aroung you will not be disapointed if you consider visit Peru to enjoy the culture, the scenery of the different habitats and of course the Birds, do note hesitate to contact him. Of course behind the great birder is a wonderful partner, Lisset who will pay attention to the reservations and be sure that every details will be number one.

13 days of birding and Peruvian culture Having arranged similar trips to various places, dragging my tolerant family with me to see the natural wonders of the world, I had very high expectations (on the back of previous experiences) when I signed up with South Birding Peru. And I should say that this was possibly the best trip we have been on. Jesus is the star of the show with his wife and admin officer, Lisset, playing an excellent supporting role. Jesus's birding skills are first class (he was especially good at finding obscure LBJs in dense forest) and an utterly charming gentleman (with a wicked sense of humour) who went to great lengths to look after us all, including my two teenagers (no mean feat). All the connections and travelling went very smoothly indeed, the food and accommodation were outstanding and we all had the most fantastic time. Thank you so much, Jesus and Lisset. If we do chose to return to do the north, you will be my first port of call.

18 Days Birding in Peru Just came back from a 18 days tour with Jesús, owner of South Birding Perú. It has been an incredible trip. Jesús has an amazing ability for finding the best birds in every place we were, whether coast, llanos, sierra highlands, jungle.....you name it. Apart from that, his company is great fun. After a couple of days, I had the feeling I was traveling with a good friend I knew for a long time. Finally, all the back up from Lisset, taking care of all details since the first mails, was an incredible and complete package. I strongly recommend traveling with Sout Birding Peru if you plan to bird in this country. Everything worked 100% as we planned and there were absolutely no "surprises".

Birding the Andes and the Amazon I spent 6 days birding with Jesus, 2 in the Abra Malagas area and 4 in Tambopata. Jesus did an amazing job of showing me the wonderful birds in Peru, and was great company while doing it! From the beginning South Birding Peru was extremely helpful when corresponding via email, and responses were quick. The logistics worked out wonderfully and even though I had booked a flight on my own Jesus went above and beyond and had someone pick me up in Puerto Maldonado. Jesus was very knowledgeable in the field and he did a very good job of finding our target birds. Overall I had a wondeful trip and would highly recommend birding with Jesus to anyone who is considering a trip to Peru!

Best birding trip ever Just spent a month with Jesus - 2 weeks in the central Andes and then a further 2, joined by my wife, in the jungle and around Cusco. I chose to use a local guide and company because I wanted my birding dollar to go directly into the (often very needful) local economy rather than into the pocket of a large scale international operator, and at every stage we used local drivers, hotels and restaurants. As a bird guide Jesus was superb. He has excellent knowledge of species, calls and habitats and is patient and determined to find the bird. At the same time he is sensitive to ensure minimum disturbance. Apart from this Jesus is just good company! He is a highly intelligent man and was able to provide wonderful insights into local culture and issues. He is also backed up by the very efficient Lisset who ensures the logistics are seamless. My wife is a ‘reluctant birder’ and when she joined us Jesus perfectly modified the hardcore birding program to include visits and activities that she enjoyed while continuing to find plenty of birds for me. If you want a birding trip in an insulated 1st world bubble with a large group of international birders, you will probably book with a big company. However if you want real immersion and insight into culture and places and a brilliant individually tailored birding trip, go with Jesus. I’ve birded in some 30 countries and although sometimes challenging this was the best trip of my life. Totally endorsed and recommended.

Birding in central highlands, Manu Road and Amazonia in Peru My wife and I spent about 45 days travelling in the central highlands, the Manu Road, and Amazonian forests of Peru with Jesus Cieza, owner of South Birding Peru, in September and October 2017. Jesus has incredible eyes and ears for spotting birds and other wildlife. Not only does Jesus have outstanding knowledge of birds and their habits and habitats, but he also is keenly interested in mammals, reptiles and amphibians, and all aspects of Peruvian natural history. Jesus was a good travelling companion with a good sense of humor. We thoroughly enjoyed our Peruvian travels with South Birding Peru.

Fantastic day in Lima We just got back from a great day with Jesus just south of Lima. We had just one day available to spend birding before meeting a larger non-birding tour group. We visited the Villa Marshes and Pucusana and saw over 60 species of birds. This is coastal birding so there is not the diversity of the jungle. Jesus was extremely knowledgeable about birds as well as other little tidbits about Peru. He gave us many insights and birds to watch for while in Machu Picchu and Cusco. His assistant, Lisset, is extremely responsive via email and facilitated our tour very professionally. We would definitely recommend Jesus. He does tailor special tours for small groups/couples and can take you anywhere in Peru!
