DAY 01.- BIRDING BARRANQUILLA CITY – DRY SCRUB FOREST & CARIBBEAN BIRDS
We begin birding the best bird spots around this lovely caibbean city with nice Atlantic coastal birds found in scrubby dry forest, large laggoon, Mangroves, ponds, plantations & coastal scrub that it will keep you busy the whole day birding around. There is also a nice bird spot along Magdalena river with secondary growth and good hábitat for unusual birds.
Birds we can see are: The endemic Chesnut Winged Chachalaca, Sapphire Bellied Hummingbird, Bicoloured Conebill, Black Skimmer, Sapphire Throated Hummingbird, Glaucos Tanager, Yellow Bellied Elaenia, Wooping Motmot, Brown Throated Parakeet, Oranged Winged Parrot, Snail Kite, Green Ibis, Bicolored Wren, Yellow Chinned Spinetail, Mouse Colored Tyrannulet, Fulvous Whistling Duck and many wáter birds.

DAY 02.- BARRANQUILLA BIRDS – BIRDING SALAMANCA NATIONAL PARK – COASTAL LAGOONS – MINCA TOWN
Birdwatching Barranquilla surroundings bring more good caribbean birds that inhabit laggons, secong growth, ponds, canals, coastal beaches with good & easy birding en general. This great national park known as Salamanca has nice mangrove forest, marshes with easy acces and good views for birdwatching. Right after nice lunch in local restaurant we keep moving until Minca Town, considered foot of sierra nevada de Santa Marta, of course birding until we arrive to Minca town where we spend the night in a local hotel.
Birds we can see are: White Cheecked Pintail, Glossy Ibis, Collared Plover, Caribean Hornero, Pied Puffbird, Blue Winged Parrotlet, Stripe-backed Wren, Russet Throated Puffbird, Large Billed Tern, Greater Ani, Bicolored Wren, Yellow-chinned Spinetail, Black-bellied Whistling Duck, Limpkin, Cattle Tyrant, Savanna Hawk, Northern Screamer, Snail Kite, Bare Faced Ibis, Pale Breasted Spinetail and many wáter birds.

DAY 03.- BIRDING MINCA TOWN SURROUNDINGS – POZO AZUL WATERFALL – LOWER PART OF MAIN ROAD AT SIERRA NEVADA DE SANTA MARTA
Full day birding the best bird spots around Minca Town, a good bird stop located at 700m with good bird hábitat and variety. This is the beggining of premontane forest mixed with coffee plantations, perfect place for some bird species that are hard to be seen in other locations around Colombia, this is the case for the nice looking Golden Winged Sparrow and Black Backed Antshrike plus many others migratory birds, such as Warblers. Easy birding around with good car access to have a great birding day¡¡

DAY 04.- MINCA TOWN – DORADO LODGE – BIRDING EL DORADO RESERVE
We continue birding the middle part of the bumpy main road after having early breakfast at Minca town, in order to get new birds on the way up and finally arrive to el Dorado Lodge where we spend few days birding the famous Santa Marta foothill specialties at 2000m surrounded by nice cloud forest and views.
Birds we can see here are: Santa Marta Blossomcrown, Sierra Nevada Brushfinch, White Tipped Quetzal, Santa Marta Tapaculo, Santa Marta Brushfinch, Santa Marta Antpitta,Santa Marta Antbird, Groove Billed Toucanet, White Lored Warbler, Moustached Puffbird, Long Billed Hermit, Santa Marta Woodstar, Rusty Breasted Antpitta, the particular Santa Marta race of Red Billed Parrot, Black Hooded Thrush, Black Banded Woodcreeper, White Sided Flowerpiercer, Gray Throated Leaftosser, Crowned Woodnymph, Band Tailed Guan and many others.

DAY 05.- DORADO LODGE – BIRDING UPPER PART OF SIERRA NEVADA DE SANTA MARTA – SAN LORENZO RIDGE – SANTA MARTA SPECIALTIES
Birdwatching the upper part of Santa Marta Foothills and spending great time along this road and trails while getting the rest of Santa Marta specialties. In order to have best time and birds, our breakfast and lunch will be taken on the field as a picnic, this way your bird list will be rewarded.

DAY 06.- DORADO LODGE – BIRDING THE MAIN ROAD – CAMARONES TOWN, LA GUAJIRA REGION
Early departure in order to spend good time birding along the road where we have some good bird spots on the main high way towards La Guajira Peninsula and región. The different hábitats found along this highway such as second growth, dry scrub and coastal lagoons will give you extra and very different birds for the day since you will end up the day birding at Flamingos Sanctuary where more Endemics and Near Endemics birds are found.
Birds we can see are: Rufous Vented Chachalacas, Orinoco Saltator, White Wiskered Spinetail, Vermilion Cardinal, Nothern Scrub Flycatcher, Slender Billed Inezia, Red Crowned Woodpecker, Yellow Oriole, Streaked Saltator, Crimson Backed Tanager, Straight Billed Woodcreeper, Brown Chested Martin, Orange Chinned Parakeet, Rufous Tailed Hummingbird, Gray Seedeater, and many more

DAY 07.- CAMARONES TOWN – BIRDING FLAMENCOS SANCTUARY – LA GUAJIRA REGION
Full day searching for birds that inhabit the dry scrub, desert, salt wáter lakes and mangrove. Where we can get all the bird specialties that are found between Colombia and Venezuela at the famous Guajira península.
Birds we can see are: Venezuelan Saltator, Chesnut Piculet, Blue Crowned Parakeet, Tocuyo Sparrow, Crested Bobwhite, Ruby Topaz Hummingbird, Gray Bellied Hawk, Dwarf Cuckoo, Black Crested Antshrike, Double Striped Thick-knee, Bare Eyed Pigeon, Scarlet Ibis, Red Billed Emerald, Glaucous Tanager, Pileated Finch, Green Rumped Parrotlet, Shinning-Green Hummmingbird and many more.

DAY 08.- CAMARONES TOWN – TAYRONA NATIONAL PARK
Another early departure to bird our last birding spot along the main highway, this time we focus into the well known Tayrona Park with good access and trails, that takes you into this well protected natural park.
Here we will be not only loooking for birds since this hábitat also give you the chances to see the very pretty monkeys known as Cotton-top Marmosets and many good birds.
Birds we can see are: Blue Billed Curassow, Collared Forest Falcon, Lance tailed Manakin, White Bellied Antbird, Rufous Tailed Jacamar, Rufous and White Wren, Black Backed Antshrike, Military Macaws, Trinidad Euphonia, Yellow Tailed Oriole, Gray Headed Tanager, Rufous Browed Peppershrike, Plain Brown Woodcreeper, Crimson Crested Woodpecker, Yellow Crowned Tyrannulet, Ochre Lored Flycatcher, Thick Billed Euphonia and many more.
NIGHT AT TAYRONA PARK
DAY 09.- TAYRONA NATIONAL PARK – BACK TO SANTA MARTA CITY
Last morning birding the missing bird species and go back for the hard spotting birds such as the Curassow and some Manakins like White Bearded Manakin, Blue Billed Curassow, Scrub Greenlet, White Necked Puffbird, White Fringed Antwren, Gartered Trogon, Panama Flycatcher, Brown Capped Tyrannulet, Cocoa Woodcreeper and many others.
Late in the afternoon We will take you back to Santa Marta City.

THEN BIRDING UP ON SANTA MARTA MOUNTAINS THE TEMPERATURE GETS COOL AND DAYS CAN BE SUNNY TO CLOUDY SINCE THE WHOLE FOOTHILLS HAS DIFFERENT HABITAT AROUND. A PROPER BIRDING GEAR WILL REQUIRE RAINCOAT, RAINBOOTS, SUN PROTECTION, LIGHT AND WARM CLOTHING. BIRDING WALKS ARE FROM EASY TO MODERATE WALKS SINCE THE FOOTHILLS BIRDING AREA HAS A GOOD TRAIL SYSTEMS.
